Silver, Rochelle Ruth (Shelly) of Glenview

Rochelle Ruth Silver (Shelly), age 85, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Wednesday, February 9th. She was born on June 27, 1936. Preceded in death by the love of her life, Jack, after 59 years of marriage. Rochelle is survived by her daughters Sheila Ryan and Cheryl Dowdy; son-in-law Bob, her pride and joy granddaughter Sarah, grandson  Wilson, sister Sylvia, brother-in-law Norman plus  many wonderful nieces, nephews and special lifelong friends. Shelly retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield but her true calling was service and stewardship. She was very active in her temple community and volunteered at Durham County General Hospital for over 18 years. She was fondly known as the “sweet lady” who offered magazines, conversation and kindness. Traveling and seeing the world with Jack was her favorite pastime and they enjoyed regular cruises as well as trips to New York City, Hawaii and Israel. Attending family gather-ings was important to her and they were fixtures at Bat/Bar Mitzvahs, Graduations, Weddings and Funerals. Attending Sarah’s dance recitals and riding with Wilson in his mini vehicles were special yearly events.
The family would like to extend thanks and respect to Mom’s Atria/Arbor Terrace family. From her first home at Southpoint in Durham, NC to her last home in Glenview, IL she received the best care. There was no better place for her to be during Covid and her Alzheimer’s journey. Special ac-knowledgements to Jesse, Jose, Frances, Valentina, Bozena and the Kindred Hospice team. Heartfelt love from us to Kelly and Guillermo who will always be a part of our family.

Shelly never knew a stranger and many will miss her.
